Flathead Lake and Northwest Montana Fishing Report for Early August 2022

August 8, 2022

Flathead Lake

Plenty of Whitefish are being caught in the South End of Flathead Lake near Woods Bay (Yenne) Point, Elmo, Big Arm, Wildhorse Island. We’re also getting some great perch action at the south end of the lake. Lake Trout are doing well trolling at the south end using silver or green flashers with Brad’s Super Bait or FLC flies tipped with small cut-bait 80-120’ water.

Flathead River (main stream)

The main stream of the Flathead River is showing some excellent trout action right now! Try “Little Cleo’s” in gold or silver, “Panther Martins” in gold/yellow. For fly anglers – try hoppers and purple!

McGregor Lake

We’ve been seeing some really good Lake Trout trolling in the early mornings at McGregor Lake in about 60-80’ water. Try small trolling spoons or dodger with flies and cut bait to get the bite!

Middle Thompson

Look for big Salmon – deep trolling in 60 -80’ of water at the west end.

Be safe out there & stay hydrated – hot temperatures are forecasted!
