August 22, 2024

Flathead Lake

The whitefish bite on Flathead Lake has been excellent, especially on the south end. Anglers have been finding success in Skidoo Bay, Finley Point, Elmo, and Big Arm areas. For those fishing the north end, Woods Bay, Caroline Point, the Delta, and West Shore area are producing good catches. The best depths have been 40-60 feet, and green jigging spoons in the 5/8 oz to 3/4 oz range are the go-to lures. In addition to whitefish, lake trout are active, with anglers having success trolling large flatfish or silver flashers paired with Brads cut plugs.

Dickey Lake

Salmon fishing on Dickey Lake is in full swing, with anglers reporting good catches trolling mid-lake. Small dodgers paired with micro squids have been the most effective setup.

Lower Stillwater Lake

Lower Stillwater Lake is seeing plenty of smaller pike being caught, with a few nice perch mixed in. This lake is a great option for those looking to target multiple species in one trip.

Hungry Horse Reservoir

Hungry Horse Reservoir is producing some nice cutthroat trout, with trolling small gold or copper spoons being the preferred method. Additionally, there are a few nice bull trout being caught by those trolling larger plugs.

Upper Swan River

The Upper Swan River has been hot for fly fishing enthusiasts, with good action on trout. Spin fishing with spinners is also yielding good results.

Lake Mary Ronan

Lake Mary Ronan is seeing some nice perch action, especially when jigging in 25 feet of water. Gitzit jigs or small crawdad plastics are the lures of choice for those targeting perch.

Smith Lake

Smith Lake continues to produce lots of small pike, with spinnerbaits and topwater lures being particularly effective.

Bitterroot Lake

Salmon action on Bitterroot Lake has been solid, especially when trolling mid-lake. Anglers are reporting good-sized fish up to 18 inches being caught regularly.
