September 2024 Flathead Valley Fishing Report: Best Spots & Tips

September 18, 2024

Bitterroot Lake

The salmon bite is going strong! Anglers trolling around 40 feet of water are seeing success with small Dodgers paired with pink Hoochies or wedding rings. Additionally, there’s some good smallmouth bass action happening for those looking to mix things up.

Lower Stillwater Lake

Perch fishing is productive near the islands, with steady bites reported. If you’re targeting both pike and perch, try the deep weed lines at around 12-13 feet.

North Fork (Flathead River)

Fishing is excellent for cutthroat and rainbow trout! For spinners or spoons, smaller options are the way to go. Fly anglers should try Purple Haze or Orange Stimulators for great results.

Ashley Lake

Salmon fishing continues to provide solid action here, whether trolling or jigging. Don’t forget to check the weed beds for nice-sized perch.

Thompson River

Trout fishing below the bend is delivering good results, with brown trout being the primary catch along with a few brookies for variety.

Flathead Lake

There’s still some whitefish activity around Woods Bay and the Delta. For those seeking lake trout, trolling around 60 feet of water remains productive.

Snagging Season Open September 15th

For those interested in snagging, Tobacco River and Graves Creek open up on September 15th.
Get ready for some exciting action!
